Special thanks to Road & Track Magazine, the source of most of the links on this page.

  • Acura Legend is a great high performance sport sedan. How about an Integra for college?
  • Alpha Romeo Spyder was my favorite car for many years.
  • Audi TT is my style for fun.
  • Bentley Motors
  • BMW 5 series station wagon of 1999 is similar to our 1999 Peugeot 406. The 323i Convertible would be fun to drive through the Bavarian hills and meadows.
  • BMW Mini Cooper is really a fun looking little car!
  • Buick Le Saber is grandpa Porter's favorite car, though he also really likes his Park Avenue. We have had two Centurys. Doesn't Tiger Woods drive a Regal?
  • Cadillac was my dad's favorite car. I think he had both Sedan de Villes and Coupe de Villes. I remember he used to humiliate the hot rods in Omaha on Friday nights. He drove a pretty blue 1959 Fleetwood Caddy with fins in the back and 400+ cubic-inches motor. Ah, that was in the 60s, and gas was still only $0.25 a gallon(3.8 liters)! I am paying about $3.21 a gallon for gas here in Ivory Coast.
  • Chevrolet A 1967 Impala was my dad's family car until a semi drove over it in 1974. My 1969 Camaro SS 396 425 HP was the fastest car I have owned. It was faster than most motorcycles at that time. It was custom painted by Rick Young in his Coach and Carriage body and paint shop in Omaha, NE. Rick designed that awesome paint job with stripes that included Chevy emblems on the doors and faded out over the rear quarter panels. Modifications included a Z28 front end and a cowl induction hood. If you own it now, send me a photo please! Or if you own a C5 or C6 Corvette, please send me a photo for my screen saver.
  • Chrysler Concorde, 300M, LHS, all are beautiful cars. Have you seen photos of the Chronos concept car?
  • Dodge Dynasty was a nice car while we had it on a home assignment in 1993, though a Viper, Intrepid or even a PT Cruiser would be fun to own.
  • Eagle

  • Ford Comet 1962 model kept me on the road for a while in the mid 1970s. The old style 1960's Mustang was my brother Pat's favorite car.
  • GM Vehicles: Cadillac, Chevrolet, Pontiac, etc.
  • Honda Odyssey has a big brother named MV-99 based on the Accord platform. A 1978 Accord was our first car as a newly married couple in 1984. We lived in Nebraska, Iowa, New York, Georgia and South Carolina while we owned it. Great car for a perfectionist! Keep the oil full! The CVCC motor needs a full crankcase, or you will need a valve job.
  • Hyundai Tiburon FX is a great looking car from this Korean Company.
  • Infiniti I30 and Q45 are quite expensive. The QX4 is a good looking compact sport utility vehicle.
  • Isuzu Rodeo was a good car for Sue's brother Jim, when he lived in Colorado. The Trooper is a rugged 4WD for Africa.
  • Jaguar XJ6 is a real pretty car.
  • Jeep Wrangler is a macho fun ride here in Africa, but uses a bit too much gas at $5.50 a gallon.
  • Kia is a popular commercial truck here in Côte d'Ivoire.
  • Land Rover is famous in Africa. I found this cool Land Rover LR3 Web site Ebony Magazine. It is much more exciting than the main Land Rover Web sites.
  • Lexus GS 300 is an economical sport sedan, with excellent performance.
  • Lotus makes beautiful cars. It is a UK brand. Famous models include the Lotus Elise 111R, Elan, the Type 79 Esprit/Espirit, Excel, Exige and Caterham Seven. Their British Web site gives a completely different presentation of their cars.
  • Mazda Miata (AKA M5 in Europe) is my kind of sports car today.
  • Mercedes Benz is a very popular car here in Côte d'Ivoire, though most are brought in used from Europe. My dad had a 220D. It was a great car, but was hard to start when it was very cold (-10 F) in Omaha. We would just leave it running all night. The E430 would be a fun car to own today.
  • Mitsubishi L200 Diesel Pick-up was our first vehicle here in Africa. It was a tough truck. It is still being used to build the Seminary in Abidjan. The 3000GT Spyder VR-4 would not be so practical, but sure would be fun to drive.
  • MG and Rover share this site. Choose your country at the Home page, but not the USA! No Dealers in the USA for the moment. I chose UK, since they are a British company. I also read English better than French, German, Jula and Arabic! MG now builds the MG TF (convertible sports car), MG ZR, MG ZS, MG ZT, MG ZT-T, MG Express and the MG XPower SV (awesome coupe sports car). I loved my 1957 MGA.
  • Nissan Pathfinder is fairly common here. The Dargatz family had a two door model.
  • Oldsmobile

  • Peugeot 406 Station Wagon is our current car. See it in our carport at our Home in Bouake.
  • Pontiac TransAm would be my choice for driving excitement. My brother Lou and a Firebird Formula, the last year before they went to the small body. It cornered like it was on rails!
  • Porsche is very popular in Omaha. I painted many of them when I worked at Coach and Carriage paint and body shop. I rebuilt one 1956 Cabriolet from the ground up. It had a lot of rust down low. We painted 911s, and old racing models.
  • Rover and MG share this site. Choose your country at the Home page, but not the USA! No Dealers in the USA for the moment. I chose UK, since they are a British company. I also read English better than French, German, Jula and Arabic! Rover cars include the CITYROVER, STREETWISE, ROVER 25, ROVER 45, ROVER 75, ROVER 75 TOURER and the ROVER COMMERCE and a real nice Rover 75 Limousine. Real British Luxury!
  • Saab 9000 Aero and 900SE are very safe and well built cars.
  • Scion has model names like xA, xB, tC and Metro. They make me think of the old MG models TD, TC and my favorite the MGA. SCION is a marque of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.
  • Subaru Legacy looks like it would be a good car for Bouaké. I tried to get my brother Art to buy a Subaru around 1974, but he bought the Mercury Capri instead.
  • Suzuki makes our Samurai. See photos of it at our Christmas Slide show
  • Toyota builds excellent cars. Ask anyone who owns one. Our 1997 Corolla gave us excellent service. It ran great for the Ballards, who drove it in Abidjan. Now we have a 1996 Toyota Surf aka 4Runner with a 3.0 liter turbo diesel motor, with lots of torque! John has a 2003 Celica GTS. Josh likes it when it makes the WAAAAA sound.
  • Vauxhall is a British Manufacturer. Their Astra GSi 2.0 Turbo is a beautiful car.
  • Volvo 850 Turbo Sports Wagon would be a fine car for trips from Bouaké to Abidjan. 222 HP would do the job for passing trucks on the dangerous two lane.
  • Volkswagen My first car was a 1954 Beatle. I purchased it in 1970 when I was 14 years old. It's turn indicators were little lighted arms that flipped out in the bar behind the front door. It had a split rear window. My dad's friends used to tease me about it's "sewing machine" engine. It was great for learning to shift gears! The 2001 Jetta is my sister Becky's new car. She really likes the new diesel technology. John liked the nice interior. It gets 44 MPG. Can you beat that?

  • Edmunds.com has good reviews nice photos.
  • Auto-Reviews.com gives you a "New Car Summary". It includes an exhaustive review of that car with all specifications and about two photos. At the end, they have a link to another site, Autovantage.com, which helps you to purchase the car. I use this site for photos to add to my photo screensaver, WebShots.com.
